MasterplanningBIT Ranchi Master Plan Ranchi, Jharkhand

This design exploration for the BIT Campus at Mesra encompasses the various exercises of building design, master planning, and landscape design into one common agenda – sustainable planning. Sustainability is the underlying principle for all design and intervention into the campus – be it social, financial or environmental sustainability. The available land of 780 acres, with its resident population of approximately 6000 persons, is ideal for creating a self-sustainable community which is not reliant on external support for its resources and waste disposal and treatment. The main issues tackled were rain-water harvesting and use in domestic consumption, waste water and sewage treatment and re-use, on-site new and renewable energy production, intelligent building design and management systems that reduce energy consumption, landscape design to follow an ecological model, and use of part of landscape as a production landscape. The key thrust areas for this exercise were planning for future growth, upgrade of existing building stock, an integrated master plan and re-invigorating the visual paradigm.
